Step into the future of education, technology, and workforce development on this exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Wichita State University’s Innovation Campus. Designed specifically for educators, this immersive experience connects classroom practice with cutting-edge research, industry partnerships, and emerging technologies.
From smart manufacturing labs and AI-driven innovation hubs to creative maker spaces, you’ll explore how WSU is shaping the future—and how these insights can empower your students to thrive in it. This walking tour is limited to 30 participants and offers direct engagement with WSU faculty and innovators who are bridging education and industry every day.
The tour begins at the RSC outside the Bookstore with a 10-minute walk to the John Bardo Center (JBC). In case of rain, participants will drive and meet in the JBC Lobby.
JBC Lobby Introduction (15 minutes):Participants will receive a WSU notebook, pen, and bottled water. The session will introduce the Innovation Campus, focusing on:
- Applied learning: What it is and why it matters
- The vision behind the Innovation Campus
- Its impact over the past 10 years
Attendees will be encouraged to reflect through the lens of their teaching roles.
Rotating Campus Tour (100 minutes):Participants will be split into five groups and rotate through the following five stops (20 minutes each), reflecting on how each can impact student learning:
- GoCreate:
- What is a Makerspace?
- Learning through hands-on projects and community connection
- Project Innovation Hub:
- Differences from GoCreate
- Role in supporting classroom learning and unstructured exploration
- 3D Experience Center (Dassault Systems):
- Technologies: additive manufacturing, robotics, XR
- Industry partnerships and student confidence
- Differences between academic and real-world expectations
Wrap-Up Walk & Talk (15 minutes):- Afternoon session (3:10–3:25): Walk through Airbus and NetApp, ending at Social Tap for a social hour with free appetizers.
- Morning session (11:30–11:45): Walk past Airbus and the Pizza Hut Museum, ending at NetApp for lunch in the cafeteria.
